Northamptonshire County Council is developing a strategy for our Prevention Services. In order to do this effectively, we need your input, and therefore, we began a consultation as of the 7th July, 2011, which will run for at least 12 weeks.
What are ‘Prevention Services’?
Prevention services are services aimed at preventing problems either from developing or getting worse. For example, parenting programmes that help parents to improve the way that they manage their children’s behaviour or support planning for people diagnosed with dementia so they can immediately access dementia care advisors to help carers continue to manage and cope without intervention from social services. If we can prevent more problems at an earlier opportunity, evidence tells us that we will improve quality of life and save money.
Prevention is not a new concept for the Council and in both children and adults specialist services we have a wealth of experience over the past two years of piloting delivery in a new way to provide the right kind of support to people at the right time. This prevents problems from escalating and as a result reduces the demand on high cost, specialist services.
You can read more about Prevention Services in Northamptonshire and download documents to support the consultation in the Prevention section of our website.

One Comment
I attended the Prevention Consultation today at the Nene Centre. My brother is currently cared for by Delos. He was sick and could not attend. I talked with Rachel at the meeting and passed on my brother’s thoughts about the very good service he gets. I was asked if he could suggest an improvement to the service. He came up with the idea of a friend – someone like him with learning difficulties and of a like age.
